The Rocky Rams were back in action over the weekend, which saw them split their games.
On Friday, the High River Brewing Co. Flyers came into town, for a date with the Rams and skated away with a 6-5 victory.
In the first period, the Flyers would get on the board at 5:13 after Connor Smith would get an unassisted goal. The Flyers would take a 2-0 lead at 16:33 after Jager Marshall would find the back of the net. The Rams would get outshot in the first period 11-10, and would also go 0/2 on the powerplay.
The second period started off like the first period, with the Flyers opening the scoring at 3:41 to take a 3-0 lead. Easton Weasel Head would get credited for his third goal of the season, with Taylor Madsen and Alex McIssac earning the assists. The Rams would finally manage to get on the scoresheet at 5:42 after Jake Smith scored on the powerplay making it 3-1. Reid Christiansen and Grady Mofford earned the assists. However, just 20 seconds later, the Flyers would reclaim a three goal lead after a McCallum Bakken goal, with Jager Marshall earning the loan assist. The Flyers kept pressuring and would make it 5-1 when Connor Smith would score his second goal of the game, with assists coming from the sticks of Jager Marshall and Alex McIssac. The Rams would add another goal at 8:01 making it 5-2. Kyle Goodrunning got credit for his second goal of the season, with Reid Christiansen and Kyle Humphrey racking up the assists.
In the third period it was all Rams, with Tristan Hoffus opening the Scoring making it 5-3. Clyde Goodrunning got the assist. The Rams would find the back of the net again making it 5-4 after a Jake Smith goal, with the assist coming off the stick of Kyle Goodrunning. Jake Smith would complete the hat-trick and would also get the Rams to tie the game 5-5. Then at 9:38 in the final frame, Grady Mofford would score his first goal of the season on the powerplay, which would also be the game winning goal, pushing the Rams to a 6-5 victory.
The Rams outshot the Flyers 39-38.

On Saturday, the Rams would have their first road game of the year, when they played the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.
The first period started off with the Bisons striking first at 12:08 to claim a 1-0 lead. Seamus Garagan would get credit for his first goal of the season, with Hunter Cobb and Easton Dean earning the assists. The Bisons would take a 2-0 lead when Jakob Semeniuk would score a shorthanded goal, with the assists coming from Kegan Law and Adam Kirkpatrick. Just 50 seconds later, the Bisons would score another shorthanded goal, making it 3-0, this time from Jake Snashall, with Easton Dean earning the loan assist. The Rams would then make it 3-1 after a powerplay goal from Reid Christiansen at 15:26, with the assists coming from Grady Mofford and Quinn Tomalty.
The Rams would find themselves behind three goals for the second straight game after Kaleb Schuller made it a 4-1 game in the second period with the Rams getting outshot 14-8, while also missing on their only powerplay of the period.
In the final frame, the Rams would strike first when Reid Christiansen got his second goal of the game, making it 4-2. Kyle Goodrunning assisted on the goal. Under a minute later, the Rams would would make it 4-3 score, this time from Kyle Goodrunning, with Reid Christiansen assisting on the play. Unfortunately, however, it was too little too late for the Rams as they would fall to the Bisons 4-3.
Okotoks outshot Rocky 39-30.
The Rams are now 2-2-0 on the season and currently tied for third place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division.
The Rams are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, when they travel to Medicine Hat to play the Cubs. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m at the Kinplex Arena.
