The Rocky Rams returned to action over the weekend with a pair of wins.
On Friday, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder came to town for a date against the Rams.
In the first period, the Rams would kick off the scoring at 6:21 after Eric Layden scored a powerplay goal. Cameron Moir and Tristan Hoffus earned the assists. The Rams would strike again at 11:41 to take a 2-0 lead, after Jake Smith scored his ninth goal of the season, with the assists coming from Grady Mofford and Kyle Humphrey. During the first period the Rams would get outshot 9-7.
In the second period neither team would find the back of the net. The Rams however, would outshoot the Thunder 10-8. The Rams would also get the lone powerplay in the period but would not capitalize.
The Rams entered the third period with a 2-0 lead, and would make it a 3-0 lead after they scored their second powerplay goal of he game, this time from the stick of Reid Christiansen, with Jake Smith earning the only assist. The Rams special teams would strike for their third powerplay goal of the game at 8:20 to give the Rams a 4-0 lead after Kyle Goodrunning found the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season, with the assists coming from the sticks of Jake Smith and Kyle Humphrey. Eric Layden of the Rams would make it a 5-0 game after he scored his second goal of the game, with Jake Smith earning the lone assist. The Rams would also outshoot the Thunder in the final frame 18-10, with the final shots on net being 35-27 in favour of the Rams.
Rams goalie Zaiden Hansen would stop all 27 shots he faced for his first shutout of the year.

On Saturday the Rams would travel to Strathmore for a game against the Wheatland Kings in hopes of winning back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The first period would see the Rams get outshot 13-7, in a period that would have no goals. However, the Rams penalty kill would do their part, killing off the only Rams penalty. Meanwhile, the Rams powerplay would struggle, missing on all three attempts.
In the second period it was the Rams who would strike first at 7:22 after a Quinn Tomalty goal. Reid Christiansen and Jake Smith gathered the assists. However, just over one minute later the Wheatland Kings would tie the game 1-1 after a Kobe Gosling goal with Kage Yellowfly earning the lone assist. The Wheatland Kings would take a 2-1 lead at 10:53 after Brandon McGillivray found the back of the net, with Cole Tweit and Cole Walker earning the assists. The Rams would get more than doubled in shots in the second period, 13-6.
In the third period it was the Rams powerplay striking to tie the game 2-2, after Grady Mofford scored his second goal of the year. Reid Christiansen and Caleb Andrew earned the assists. Mofford’s would be the only goal of the final period sending it to overtime. During the third period the Rams would get outshot again 11-6.
In overtime each team would only manage one shot on net, neither of them finding the back of the net, meaning the game headed to a shootout.
Up first for the Wheatland Kings was Kage Yellowfly who would find the back of the net. However, the Rams would send Tristan Hoffus up next and he would even the shootout after scoring. Chase Berg would be next for the Wheatland Kings, he would not end up scoring. The Rams would then send their top goal scorer Reid Christiansen over the boards for a chance to take the lead in the shootout, which he would capitalize. The Wheatland Kings had one chance left to keep the shootout alive, however, Brandon McGillivray was not able to score, giving he Rams a 3-2 victory.
The Rams would get outshot 38-20 by the Wheatland Kings, but Rams goalie Lex Watson stood tall between the pipes stopping 36 shots.
After the weekends set of games, the Rams hold a 4-3-1 record and are currently sitting in third place in the Northern Division.
The Rams are back in action Oct. 20, when the Ponoka Stampeders come to town. Puck drop at 8:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
