The Rocky Rams had a successful weekend, winning both games.
On Friday the Rams traveled to Airdire to play the Techmation Thunder.
In the first period the Rams wouldn’t find the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Thunder would also struggle to get a goal, leaving the first period tied 0-0. However, there were plenty of shots in the first period as the Thunder would outshoot the Rams 11-9. The Rams would also miss on their only powerplay opportunity of the period.
In the second period the Rams would break the deadlock and take a 1-0 lead at 6:49 after Owen Green would score his second goal of the year. The assist came off the stick of Kyle Humphrey. The Rams penalty kill did their job in the second period, shutting down the Thunder powerplay twice. Shots were tied 15-15 in the second period.
Just halfway through the third period the Thunder would tie the game 1-1 after a Joey Haden goal. The assists came from Tanner Chapman and Zach Couling. The Rams had the opportunity to take the lead throughout the final period but the powerplay would struggle going 0/2 in the final 20 minutes, and 0/3 in the game. The Rams would also get outshot 9-8.
With 60 minutes not being enough the Rams and Thunder would head into overtime, where Reid Christiansen would be the hero, netting his 10th goal of the year and giving the Rams a 2-1 OT win. Jake Smith would pick up the only assist on the game winning goal.
Lex Watson would have a great game between the pipes for the Rams stopping 34 of the 35 shots faced. Meanwhile, Thunder goalie Josh Feddema would stop 32 of the 34 shots faced in the loss.
