The Rocky Rams split their games over the weekend.
On Friday, the Rams had a rematch with the Mountainview Colts who beat them 6-5 the previous weekend, and defeated the Rams again this go-round as well, winning 3-2 in overtime at the Rocky Arena.
In the first period, Rocky would open the scoring at 3:48 to take a 1-0 lead. Jakob Weimer would pick up his first goal of the season. Tristan Hoffus and Kyle Goodrunning earned the assists. Then, at 7:56 Grady Mofford would score his third goal of the season to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Tristan Hoffus picked up his second assist of the game, along with Landon Green who would get credit with the other assist. Meanwhile, the Colts would make it a 2-1 game after Haiden Parks would score on the powerplay. The assists came from the sticks of Paton Rothenbusch and Emmet Barnett. After the first period the shots were 9-7 in favour of the Rams.
In the second period, the Rams would only manage three shots on net, while the Colts would post 12 shots on net. Late in the second frame, the Colts would also tie the game 2-2 after Jay Heistad found the back of the net. Mitchell McDermid picked up the lone assist.
In the final 20 minutes of play, both goalies were solid in not giving up a goal. The Rams were outshot 14-5 in the third period. The Rams would also miss both opportunities on the powerplay. However, they would also kill the two penalties they took.
Since no goals were scored in the third period this game needed extra time to decide its winner, and in overtime, Blake Stoddard of the Colts would be the hero after picking up his third goal of the season to push the Colts to a 3-2 victory. Paton Rothenbusch and Harley Smith earned the assists on the game winning goal. The Rams would also get outshot in overtime 1-0 and in the game 34-17.

On Saturday, the Three Hills Thrashers came to town for their first meeting of the season with the Rams.
In the first period, the Thrashers would get on the board first at 7:34 after August Olson would score on the powerplay. Andrew Chapman and Bryce Fenton earned the assists. However, under two minutes later, the Rams would tie the game 1-1 after Jake Smith would sneak one by the Thrasher’s goalie. Reid Christiansen would get the lone assist. Then, under a minute later, the Thrashers would re-claim the lead 2-1 after Jagger Ringdahl picked up his first goal of the year. Bryce Fenton and Kohen McKiernan earned the assists. The game would continue to go back and forth and it would be the Rams picking up the next goal at 12:37, tying the game 2-2. Jake Smith would get credit for his second goal of the game and 16th of the season, with Reid Christiansen and Grady Mofford getting credit for the assists. The Rams would then strike at 19:58 to take their first lead of the game 3-2 with a powerplay goal of their own. Quinn Tomalty picked up his fifth goal of the year. The assists came off the sticks of Eric Layden and Reid Christiansen. Throughout the first period the Rams would outshoot the Thrashers 12-10.
In the second period, the Thrashers would pick up the only goal at 6:21, shorthanded after Chance Reay found the back of the net. August Olson and Nolan Metzger earned the assists. Throughout the second period the Rams would get outshot 8-7.
Heading into the third period, the game was tied 3-3. The Rams would eventually take the lead 4-3 at 12:02 after an Owen Green goal. Noah Wilson picked up the only assist. Then, at 12:59 the Rams would make it a 5-3 game courtesy of Grady Mofford. The assists came off the sticks of Noah Wilson and Jake Smith. The Rams would manage to outshoot the Thrashers 13-6 in the final period and 32-24 throughout the game.
After the weekend, the Rams have an 8-7-3 record, placing them in second place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division.
The Rams return to action on Friday when the 7-12-0 Red Deer Vipers come to town. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
