Town of Rocky Mountain House council will be setting up a date to hold a by-election after a councillor recently resigned.
This comes as former councillor Shane Boniface handed in his resignation as of Nov. 7, and is no longer serving on council.
Town officials say, in consultation with the CAO, the Legislative Coordinator is recommending a By-election date of Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with two advanced voting days to be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
According to the Town, by-election 2024 costs have not been incorporated into the 2024 budget, but costs are anticipated to be around $5,000.00 if only staff are used to run and work the election. However, if council chooses to hold Institutional voting, additional people, training, and resources will be required.
