The Rocky Rams were back in action over the weekend.
On Friday, the Rams met with the Red Deer Vipers for the first time this season, and would skate away with a 4-1 victory.
In the first period, it was the Vipers getting on the board first at 2:27 after a Keaton Mackenzie-Clermont goal. Ethan Humeniuk picked up the lone assist. Mackenzie-Clermont’s goal would also be the only one of the period. Throughout the first 20 minutes, the Rams would outshoot the Vipers 9-5.
In the second period, neither team would find the back of the net. However, the referees were busy calling 60 minutes worth of penalties. During the second period, the Rams would outshoot the Vipers again 16-11.
In the final period, the Rams would tie the game 1-1 after Jake Smith would score a short-handed goal at 3:47. Owen Green and Reid Christiansen earned the assists. The Rams would then take a 2-1 lead at 6:29 after Eric Layden picked up his third goal of the year. Jakob Weimer and Grady Mofford picked up the assists. The Rams would keep pushing and would take a two goal lead at 15:21 after Reid Christiansen would find the back of the net for his 16th goal of the season. Jake Smith and Kyle Humphrey earned the assists. Just under one minute later the Rams would make it a 4-1 game after a Quinn Tomalty goal. The assists came off the sticks of Kyle Goodrunning and Tristan Hoffus. The Rams would also outshoot the Vipers 12-6 throughout the period and 37-22 throughout the game.
The Rams would also receive 58 total penalty minutes, while the Vipers had 55 total penalty minutes.
After the weekend the Rams are 9-7-3 and are sitting in second place in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division.
The Rams are back in action on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, when the 7-8-4 Mountainview Colts come to town. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
