Since former councillor Shane Boniface resigned on Nov. 7, 2023, no applications have come into the Town for the vacant councillor position.
Town officials note, the by-election to fill the vacant councillor spot is on February 29, 2024. Advanced voting will be on Feb. 8, and Feb. 24. Individuals who are interested in running can visit the towns website to download the handbook for candidates.
The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) governs elections for Alberta’s local jurisdictions, including the Town of Rocky Mountain House. All candidates should check the LAEA for complete details on the nomination process.
The deadline to apply for the vacant councillor position is Jan. 29, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
All Canadian citizens 18 years of age or older who reside within the Town of Rocky Mountain House on Election Day can vote.
However, Town officials want residents to come prepared. All votes must show ID and proof of a Rocky Mountain House street address, as well as an authorized voter identification that states your name and address, such as one of the following documents:
• Government photo ID showing name and current address.
• Bank or credit card statement or personal cheque.
• Government cheque or cheque stub.
• Income or property/tax assessment notice.
• Insurance policy or coverage aid.
• Residential lease or mortgage statement.
• Utility bill (power, internet, gas or water bill)
• Vehicle ownership, registration or insurance certificate.
