Sundre RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a death in Mountain View County.

According to RCMP, at approximately 12:17 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2024, Sundre RCMP were dispatched to a report of a man that had been shot northwest of Sundre. Officers attended and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Mounties say lifesaving efforts were attempted at the scene and the male was transported to local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation and is treating the death as suspicious.

Police say an autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Calgary Medical Examiner’s office on Jan. 26, 2024. RCMP say an update will be provided when results of the autopsy are known.
