Two local schools have been selected to participate in a youth environmental leadership summit.
Inside Education is gearing up to host the Regenerate Forest and Wildlife Youth Summit, described as a remarkable 13th provincial-scale, in-person summit in the environmental and natural resource charity’s nearly 40-year history.
Officials say following a record-setting number of applications from high schools across Alberta, Inside Education has selected O’Chiese First Nation School and David Thompson High School to take part in the four-day summit slated for March 7-10, 2024, along with 19 other schools located throughout the province.
According to Inside Education at the multifaceted Regenerate Forest and Wildlife Summit, four students and two teachers from each participating school will have an unparalleled opportunity to engage with experts from industry, government, academia, NGOs and Indigenous leaders, while exploring the science, technology, issues and career paths related to Alberta’s forests and wildlife.
In addition to experiencing exciting field-based tours, interactive learning activities, hands-on workshops and face-to-face discussions with a diverse group of natural resource experts, participants will be challenged to take what they have learned to positively impact their peers, schools and communities.
“Young people are eager to engage with the real-world innovations that are setting our province and country on a path to a more sustainable future,” says Inside Education Program Director Kathryn Wagner. “The Regenerate Summit will allow the 80 students – tomorrow’s scientists, leaders and decision-makers – an unmatched opportunity to connect with Alberta’s forests, wildlife and the activities today that will positively impact their future.”
Inside Education is described as Alberta’s largest environmental and natural resource education charity. The Alberta-based non-profit provides support for K-12 school teachers across the province to work together toward a balanced and sustainable future for the environment, economy, and society.
