The Rocky Rams had a busy weekend after eliminating the Mountainview Colts on Friday, then moving on to a best of five series against the Carstar Okotoks Bisons.
On Friday, the Rams eliminated the Colts after beating them in game four, 6-1.
In the first period, Jake Smith of the Rams would score his fourth goal of the postseason and giving the Rams a 1-0 lead just over two minutes after puck drop. Tristan Hoffus and Kaiden Grzech earned the assists. Later in the period, the Rams would then take a 2-0 lead after Tyler Hanson scored his first goal of the postseason. Noah Wilson and Eric Layden earned the assists. However, the two goal lead was short lived as the Colts would get on the board after a Steven Bell goal. Emmett Barnett and Paton Rothenbusch earned the assists to make it a 2-1 game. After the first period, the Rams would get outshot 18-13.
In the second period, the Rams powerplay would strike after Grady Mofford found the back of the net at 12:33 to give the Rams a 3-1 lead. The assists came off the sticks of Tristan Hoffus and Jake Smith. Meanwhile, the Rams powerplay would get a second goal of the period, this time coming from Tristan Hoffus. Grady Mofford and Jake Smith gathered the assists. Heading into the third period the Rams held a 4-1 lead. Throughout the second period the Rams outshot the Colts 12-8.
Heading into the final period, the Rams powerplay would strike for their third goal of the game giving the Rams a 5-1 lead. Grady Mofford would get credit for his second goal of the game with both coming on Rams powerplays. Kaiden Grzech and Kyle Humphrey earned the assists. The Rams powerplay would then strike again for their fourth powerplay goal. Eric Layden would get credit for his first goal, with Reid Christiansen gathering the loan assist. Throughout the third period shots were 8-5 in favor of the Rams. The Rams would have the slight upper hand in shots throughout the game 33-31.
Rams goalie Zaiden Hanson would have a great game between the pipes stopping 30 of the 31 shots he faced. Hanson’s performance would also help the Rams eliminate the Colts in a 6-1 victory.

On Sunday, the Rams would travel to Okotoks to open the semifinals with a chance for the winner of the series to play for the championship, but unfortunately for the Rams they would fall 5-2.
In the first period, the Bisons would draw first blood just 52 second into the game after Jake Snashall scored his third goal of the postseason. Easton Dean and Nolan Smith earned the assists. However, the lead was short lived as the Rams would tie the game 1-1 at 3:35 after Quinn Tomalty scored his third of the postseason. Grady Mofford and Reid Christiansen earned the assists. Then, as the period was winding down, the Bisons would reclaim the lead after an unassisted Ethan MacIntyre goal. In the first 20 minutes of action the Rams would get outshot by the Bisons 20-8.
In the second period, the Rams would continue to struggle as the Bisons would put up another 20 shots, while the Rams posted 7. The only goal of the period would come from Daniel Tainton of the Bisons to give them a 3-1 lead heading into the last period. Nolan Smith would earn the only assist.
In the final frame, Daniel Tainton would score his second goal of the game and third of the post season at 9:11 to give the Bisons a 4-1 lead. Scott Brown and Nolan Smith earned the assists. Just over three minutes later Daniel Tainton would complete the hat-trick giving the Bisons a 5-1 lead. Meanwhile, with just one second left in the game the Rams would find the back of the net on the powerplay after Clyde Goodrunning scored his first of the playoffs. Goaltender Lex Watson and and Noah Wilson earned the assists. In the final period the Rams would only manage to get two shots on goal, while the Bisons got 30. Throughout the game the Bisons would outshoot the Rams 70-17.
After the game the Bison took a 1-0 series lead over the Rams.
Game two of the best of five is in Rocky on Friday, March 8 at the Rocky Arena. Puck drop for game two is set for 8:30 p.m.
