(by: The Canadian Press) Alberta cabinet minister and Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Jason Nixon says his son has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home following a crash late last year that left him in critical condition and in a coma for weeks.

Nixon says in a social media post that his son Austin has “fought every step of the way, starting with learning to move again, and to speak, then to learning to walk and care for himself.”

The minister posted in early December that his twins Austin and Chyanne were injured in a crash that severely injured his son, but spared his daughter from serious injuries.

At that time, Nixon said he would continue in his role as minister for seniors, community and social services, but that fellow cabinet minister Dan Williams would be assisting him to make sure the work got done.
