Officials with the Town of Rocky Mountain House say a new pool lift has been installed at Credit Union Co-op Aquatic Centre so that everyone, including those with limited mobility, can enjoy the pool.
Glenn McNair, manager at the Credit Union Co-op Aquatic Centre says there was a time when there was no lift.
“We used to have a lift back probably three years ago.” says McNair. “It hadn’t been in service just because it was missing parts.”
McNair adds that with the lift installed, everyone can now enjoy every part of the pool facility.
“We’re a facility that is wheelchair accessible. If people can get into the building they need to be able to use the pool,” says McNair. “Our leisure pool and our whirlpool both have ramps into them for wheelchair [accessibility]. The main pool does not have a ramp of any kind. So what the lift does is it allows us to transfer people from a wheelchair into a chair that can then be lowered into the pool.”
McNair says the project was funded in part by the Enabling Accessibility Fund from the Government of Canada.
Patrons can access the lift by asking at the front desk or by asking lifeguards on deck.
