Construction is underway on a culvert replacement project on the western outskirts of Rocky Mountain House.
Officials with the provincial ministry of Transportation & Economic Corridors say it is replacing a bridge-sized culvert located just south of 49 Avenue.
Work to replace the 70-year-old culvert began on July 2, 2024, and is expected to last until the autumn, assuming minimal weather related delays, officials say.
The contract to do the work was awarded to North Star Contracting with a construction cost of around $1.1 million.
Provincial officials say there are water and wastewater lines within excavation limits, so Rocky Mountain House residents and businesses may experience very short term service disruptions.
Ample notice of these disruptions will be provided by the contractor, say officials, and significant effort will be made to minimize the impacts of these disruptions.
Due to the nearby developments and utility constraints, the road will be closed during construction, and detours will direct drivers around the construction zone for the duration of the project.
