Four new lighting masts are set to be erected at Curtis Field in Rocky Mountain House by the end of August.
As of Aug. 9, Town officials say one mast has been completed with three more on the docket set to be completed in time for not only planned Alberta Day celebrations, but the start of the upcoming Rocky Mountain House & District Minor Football season.
Its something Rocky Mountain House & District Minor Football has been working toward for many years, says Tiffany Robinson, communications officer with the Town of Rocky Mountain House. It was a project that was identified by the organization that would effectively boost the overall quality of the facility.
Previously, after dusk lighting at Curtis Field was provided by street light type installations that were often insufficient for not only football, says Robinson, but also for the outdoor skating oval set up in the winter.
The project was funded through a $118,500 contribution from both the Town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County, a $112,861 grant from the provincial government’s Community Facilities Enhancement Program (CFEP), as well as fundraising efforts from Rocky Mountain House & District Minor Football.
Cranes installed the first mast at the field in early August, says Robinson, with crews mapping out the locations of the other three masts to be installed concurrently in the days ahead under the supervision of local electricians.
The hope is to have the new lights make its debut during Alberta Day celebrations planned for Aug. 31 at Curtis Field, says Robinson.
Organized by the newly-formed Town of Rocky Mountain House Events Committee, Robinson says Alberta Day will feature fun activities such as an outdoor movie.
The Rocky Mountain House PeeWee Junior Rebels also have a game scheduled against the Ponoka Broncs on Aug. 31, at Curtis Field. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m.
