A long, colorful, mysterious, rock snake on a Rocky Mountain House walking trail is taking shape and growing in length with the help of passerbys who add rocks.
Those walking near Strawberry Hill park will no doubt notice, “Rocco”, the rocky art installation that’s been growing in size week by week.
A sign near Rocco’s head reads: “Rocky Mountain Snake. Add a rock to see how far I travel, but please don’t take away.”
Jennifer Hebb, administrator for the RR Rock Hunt Facebook page says the origin of the snake is a real mystery.
“It’s a mystery to me. At the bottom of the sign, it says ‘K & M’,” says Hebb. “So whoever ‘K & M’ is, thank you for starting that snake, that is awesome.”
Hebb estimates the snake is now over 20 feet long, but admits she hasn’t been down there personally, but would like to get a closer look.
Hebb mentions the snake has nothing to do with the RR Rock Hunt page.
The RR Rock Hunt page models others across the world where participants post a picture of a hidden rock with clues as to its whereabouts, says Hebb. Hunt enthusiasts then search for the rock and get the satisfaction of eventually finding it or starting rock hunts of their own.
“I would encourage anyone who likes rock hunting and painting to join the group,” says Hebb. “Enjoy a little fun.”
Hebb estimates at least a handful of rock hunts get posted on the page every week.
