With another exciting Rocky Rams season around the corner, officials with the team are seeking volunteers for a number of positions to help make it all happen on game nights.
The openings include game day coordinator, social media assistant, timekeepers, scorekeepers, security, as well as an announcer and an in-game DJ.
Head coach and assistant GM of the Rocky Rams, Wendall Mason gave 94.5 Rewind Radio News a quick rundown of what all the volunteer positions would entail.
- Game day coordinator: helping to run the show on game days. Looking after scorekeepers, timekeepers, penalty box assistants among others.
- Timekeeper: Running the score clock. Mason adds training will be provided.
- Scorekeeper: Mason says everything’s on iPads and the data is easy to enter.
- Security: Two to three security people are needed for game nights, says Mason.
- Announcers: A volunteer is needed to announce goals and penalties, as well as to drive crowd excitement, says Mason. Announcing experience is preferred but not necessary.
- In-game DJ: All the music and equipment is provided, says Mason, this volunteer position requires someone to play the right music at key moments.
As far as time commitments for the positions, Mason says there is some flexibility.
“What we’re looking for is multiple people to fill multiple roles so it’s not one person doing it all the time,” says Mason. “We’ll set a bit of a schedule.”
The vast majority of regular season home games are on Friday and Saturday nights, says Mason, with the odd Sunday afternoon.
After the strongest finish in the team’s history, Mason says there’s a lot to be exited about this upcoming season.
That includes key veterans and leading scorers returning from the 23/24 season, says Mason, as well as the signing of a top defenseman who played in the SJHL.
The Rams will kick off the preseason on the road Sept. 6 with an exhibition game against the Ponoka Stampeders.
The team will then begin the regular season Sept. 20 at home vs. the Three Hills Thrashers. Game time at 8:30 p.m.
The Rocky Rams finished the 23/24 season third (18-17-3) in the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Northern Division.
