Alberta Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES) officials have confirmed all bear traps have been removed from the Rocky Mountain House area.
Additionally, Town of Rocky Mountain House officials have advised that all trails are open to the public.
Last week, FWES officials says it received multiple reports regarding a black bear in the Rocky Mountain House area.
On Sept. 11, officials say residents reported sightings of the bear near the north side of town, with concerns raised about its proximity to people’s porches.
The bear appears to have become overly comfortable around human activity, say officials.
Additionally, FWES officials say two other reports that day indicated the bear had been rummaging through garbage during the night.
FWES officers initially placed a bear trap near McNutt Subdivision in Rocky Mountain House, where it remained for two nights.
On Sept. 13, officials say the trap was to be relocated to a more suitable area north of town, based on the most up-to-date information about the bear’s location.
FWES officials say it’s important to note that while the bear had become food-conditioned and is unusually comfortable around people, it has not displayed any signs of aggression.
Residents are urged to properly store their garbage and avoid leaving bins outside overnight.
Garbage should only be placed outside on the morning of pick-up to minimize attracting wildlife.
