The Rocky Curling Club will be hosting a free ‘learn to curl’ event for those new to the game, or those who just want to sharpen their skills.
Participants will be paired with a set of coaches that will teach them some basic skills such as sliding and throwing the stone so that they can eventually grow their skill in the game, says Richard Bonneau, president of the Rocky Curling Club.
Bonneau adds that league play will begin after Thanksgiving, and there’s still room for new curlers to sign up.
A great introduction to the game of curling is the 4×4 league, he adds.
“Our 4×4 league takes new curlers, mixes them with existing curlers and does four weeks of curling before the holiday season starts in December,” says Bonneau.
Another four weeks of 4×4 league play is scheduled for January and March.
Bonneau adds, the club is always keen to teach people the sport, and will make appointments for a one-on-one instruction time for individuals or groups outside of regular scheduled events.
The learn to curl event will take place Oct. 11 from 7-9 p.m. at the Rocky Curling Club at the Pidherney’s Curling Centre.
