A Rocky Mountain House councillor has expressed interest in revisiting a bylaw that imposes a curfew on residents.
Following a series of vandalism incidents in mid-October, Councillor Dale Shippelt asked town administration whether a curfew bylaw was still in place.
In an email to 94.5 Rewind Radio News, town officials said a curfew bylaw is still on the books.
Bylaw 98/35V, introduced in 1998, forbids children 16 and under from being in a public place without a guardian between 12:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Penalties include $50 for a first offence, $100 for a second offence, and $200 for a third offence.
Officials also said the town’s original curfew bylaw, established in 1952, had the somewhat archaic title ‘Regulating Children in Public Places – Dealing with the Matter of a Curfew for Children.’
Administration is reviewing the town’s cache of bylaws, CAO Dean Krause said, to determine which ones are still relevant.
