Emergency crews responded to a structure fire just west of the hospital in Rocky Mountain House Friday morning.
RCMP and Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services both attended the scene on 52 St. just after 7 a.m., says John Liadis, fire chief for Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services (CRFRS).
Upon arrival, crews witnessed a garage structure fully involved in flames, says Liadis.
Acting quickly, crews were able to keep flames away from the house, as well as nearby power lines and an apartment complex, says Liadis.
CRFRS’ ladder truck was dispatched to keep flying embers from igniting atop the multi-story apartment building.
However, the garage structure was a total loss.
Liadis says a business was operated inside the garage which refurbished propane tanks.
The owner observed a small fire inside the garage, says Liadis, however, initial attempts to extinguish it were unsuccessful, and the owner called 9-1-1.
“There was no injuries,” says Liadis. “Every resident and adjacent neighbors were out with the help of RCMP.”
Crews are no longer on scene and an investigation continues.
