Rocky Mountain House town council is walking back a proposal to build some sort of prominent landmark within town limits.
The idea was first proposed during a May 2024 council meeting with a subsequent public engagement plan developed for the June 11, 2024 Governance and Priorities Committee Meeting.
Additionally, $200,000 was earmarked in the 2024 budget for the project. Since council provided no direction on moving ahead with any projects, that money won’t be spent this year, explained CAO Dean Krause.
However, by the fall, council began pouring cold water on the plan.
“I would like to remove it from the 2025 budget,” said Acting Mayor Len Phillips. “I don’t think this is something that’s on the map right now.”
During the Nov. 27, 2024 budget meeting, Deputy Mayor Dale Shippelt made a motion to take the landmark project out of the 2025 Budget which was passed with unanimous consent.
Rocky town council will debate the budget further during the Dec. 17, 2024 council meeting.
