Those interested in making a difference in education in the West Country are invited to put their name forward for Wild Rose School Division (WRSD) board of trustees.
Nominations will be accepted until noon on Sept. 22, 2025.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to review the 2025 School Trustee Candidate Election Package, which includes all necessary forms and information for submitting a nomination. For example, a $100 deposit is required along with nomination papers.
Additionally, a ward map details the boundaries of WRSD’s four wards. Ward one encompasses Drayton Valley and the north end, ward two encompasses Breton, ward three is the south end of the division including Caroline, Condor and Leslieville, with ward four including Rocky Mountain House and Nordegg.
Trustees play a vital role in the governance of the school division, with responsibilities that include setting division goals to ensure student success, planning priorities based on provincial curriculum and community feedback, and developing an annual budget that supports educational needs. Trustees also advocate on behalf of the community and oversee the superintendent’s performance.
WRSD emphasizes that trustees need not be education experts. Officials say the school board is best served by individuals from diverse backgrounds who represent the community as a whole. Trustees are, however, expected to put students’ needs first and contribute to the division’s strategic priorities.
The nominations come amid a momentous year at WRSD, including an official name announcement for a new school in Breton, and news that Superintendent Brad Volkman is set to retire at the end of the school year.
