It was a party that even Vanilla Ice would’ve been envious of, as around around 130 people showed up to party like it’s 1999 in Leslieville.
The Leslieville Community Center hosted its ‘Do It Like The 90s’ fundraiser dance on Feb. 28, which organizers say was a huge success.
Since mid-2024, the hall has been fundraising for around $500,000 toward necessary renovations for the hall to hold a valid occupancy permit to allow it to continue to operate into the future.
Booking Coordinator Melissa Wright says the dance fundraiser was primarily for day-to-day operating costs, but a 50/50 during the night raised $420 toward the renovation effort.
Wright credits the Leslieville Elks for their contributions to a successful evening, providing a safe ride home service, as well as helping at the hall during the event.

Future fundraising events for the spring include a Strawberry Tea fundraiser, as well as a spring craft sale on April 12.
Wright says planning is already beginning for the 2025 Leslieville Block Party, which is set to be hosted in and around the hall.
The Leslieville Community Center has also began a campaign of applying for a number of matching grants to help it reach its $500,000 goal, although Wright says they haven’t heard any positive confirmation as of yet.
