A slew of new signs are coming to the hamlet of Nordegg amid resident complaints over noise, parking, and road hazards.
Clearwater County council unanimously approved a resolution to install no engine braking signs for the hamlet, as well as no parking signs along Quarry Rd.
For engine brake noise, the particular area of concern is the manufactured home park located near the end of Quarry Road. Council heard that engine brakes are most likely to be engaged when turning onto Stuart Street from Highway 11 or controlling speed downhill from the quarry.

As another part of the motion, no parking signs will be installed along the county-managed stretch of Quarry Rd.
The request comes on behalf of Ms. Noreen Selvais. The resident complained of trucks coming and going at all hours of the day and night, parking on the street near her home, and drivers “using the trees beside the Rail Trail as a toilet”.
Councillor Neil Ratcliffe says, thanks to heavy truck traffic in the area, residents have dealt with some frightening road hazards.
“Residents often feel like they’re taking their life in their hands by walking down the side of the road,” he says. “Especially when the trucks are speeding, they’ve had to jump into the ditch when they feel the truck wasn’t going to slow down.”
The estimated cost of each sign is around $187, with the total cost of installation for four signs, including labour, estimated around $2,000.
