The smell of pancakes and sausages will fill the air Canada Day morning as the Rocky Museum welcomes locals and visitors alike for its annual pancake breakfast.
The event runs Tuesday July 1 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the backyard of the museum (5406 48 St.), and features live music from Alberta roots artist Allen Christie. Volunteers will be on hand to serve up a classic breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage, along with juice, coffee and water.
“This has become a bit of a tradition to kick off the summer holidays,” says museum manager Jean Marie Mason. “If the weather’s good, we usually get about 300 people.”
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.

Visitors will also have the chance to explore the museum’s exhibits after 10 a.m., including the recently restored Edna Brown log home. The historic house, which opened to the public during Museum Day in May, was relocated and refurbished over the past two years with the help of volunteers and community donors.
“We’ll focus on the breakfast in the morning, and then our summer staff come in around 9 or 10 and open everything up,” Mason says. “If you missed Museum Day, it’s a great chance to come see what’s new.”
