The wildfire danger in the Rocky Mountain House Forest Area has been raised to moderate, as warm and dry weather conditions are expected to continue in the coming days.
Alberta Wildfire officials say while the danger is not expected to increase significantly in the short term, vegetation will begin to dry out with the continued heat.
There are currently no active wildfires in the region.
According to the Alberta Fire Bans dashboard, there are also no fire bans in the West County headed into the long weekend.
Officials are urging residents and visitors to keep wildfire prevention top of mind heading into the long weekend. That includes never leaving campfires unattended, keeping off-highway vehicles clear of debris, and checking for fire bans before lighting any fires.
Fire permits remain mandatory for all burning activities, excluding campfires, until the end of October. Permits are also required year-round for fireworks and exploding targets.
Smoky conditions may still be present in parts of the area due to wildfires burning in other parts of Canada. Residents with health concerns are encouraged to monitor Alberta Health Services advisories and use online tools such as FireSmoke Canada for updates.
