A group of 26 Australian graziers will be visiting Clearwater County later this summer for a day of knowledge-sharing and hands-on learning focused on regenerative grazing.
The Central Alberta Forage and Livestock Association (CAFLA) is hosting the event on Aug. 23, which will include presentations, peer discussion, and a field day exploring region-specific adaptations of grazing practices suited to Alberta’s landscape.
“It’s a really unique opportunity to connect with both local and international producers, exchange practical insights, and explore diverse approaches to building more resilient grazing systems,” said Tatyana Pavlovets, CAFLA’s executive director.
The Australian visitors are part of a larger tour through Alberta, but Clearwater County will serve as a key stop, thanks in part to the involvement of Kim and Helen Nielsen of 4 Clover Ranch, who split their time between Alberta and Australia. The pair will host a field tour in the afternoon highlighting outcomes of their own regenerative grazing efforts.
The formal portion of the event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a BBQ supper and informal conversation. Admission is $20, with the fee going toward lunch.
Pavlovets says events like this align with CAFLA’s goal of fostering practical, hands-on learning for land stewards in Alberta. The organization is also hosting its second annual “Brewing Better Soil” workshop on Aug. 11, offering attendees a chance to engage with cutting-edge composting techniques and microbial soil health strategies.
