The Rocky Rams will see some fresh and familiar faces, as well as a shuffle amongst front end staff ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Firstly, now former head coach Wendall Mason will take the top job as the team’s general manager.
“It was time to take a step back,” he says. “It was important to bring in a good coach to continue with the guys, and I think we found him.”
Taking over behind the bench is Cody McLellan who coached the U18AA West Central Tigers in the HJHL hub last year. Mason says the new coach is a good fit as he’s local to the Rocky area and embodies the values and vision the team has adopted in recent years.
Joining McLellan on coaching staff are some familiar faces including Zaiden Hansen, Shawn Tuck, and Tristan Hoffus.
For his newly-minted role as GM, Mason says he hopes to take an “open-door” approach.
“I’d like to deal more in relationships with players, getting feedback on what the guys are seeing,” says Mason.
He adds, the team will be working hard in both the short and long term to deliver a winning team for Rocky fans.
On the ice, starting goaltender Cole McLean will be returning between the pipes, as will forward Cooper Lawrence who had a standout rookie season scoring 52 points, including 22 goals.
One the blue line, star defenseman Cole Fox is also set to return to the lineup.
Ahead of the season, the team is looking to fill a number of game night positions including timekeeper, scorekeeper, music player, announcer, security and social media. Anyone interested can e-mail admin@rockyrams.com.
The Rams are coming off a somewhat disappointing 2024/25 campaign, which saw the team miss the HJHL playoffs with a 12-25-1 record.
The Rams drop the puck on the regular season Sept. 20 vs. Three Hills at the Rocky Arena Complex.
