Organizers are promising bigger and better as Leslieville is gearing up to host its fifth annual Block Party celebration, set for Saturday Sept. 13.
Once again, the day will be full of free family events including wagon rides, live music, balloon twisting, face painting, car show, baking contest, bouncy castles, a market and much more.
Melissa Wright, booking coordinator for the Leslieville Community Center says a concerted effort was made to have the celebration be the best one yet.

Firefighters from Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Services will be on hand as well, says Wright, with a fire truck where kids can get an up-close look.
The event will have plenty of food, with the local Filipino Association cooking up some incredible fare, as well as the Leslieville Elks volunteering with the concession inside the community hall.
As well, Wright says the popular pie and fall preserve contest will be taken to the next level this year. Folks are now also invited to enter cookies, baked goods and picked items for a chance to win prizes such as a specially engraved wooden spoon.
Entrants are asked to contact the hall on its Facebook Page to enter. Submissions can be brought to the community hall by Sept. 12.
For music lovers, local band Ginger Snap will be returning to the stage.
Ginger Snap, made up of members from around the West Country region, cover a mix of covers of popular songs from recent decades as well as original compositions.
Also new this year, Wright says they’ll be hosting zucchini races. It’s a unique event where participants find a zucchini, decorate it, put some wheels on, and race it.

“We hope everyone comes out and enjoys the day, we’re hoping for great weather and another wonderful Leslieville Block Party,” says Wright.
The block party will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Wright adds, early plans are underway to once again host the Leslieville Community Center’s popular Haunted House Fundraiser, tentatively set for Oct. 24-25.
