Around 700 thrill seekers filed through the second annual Leslieville Haunted House between Oct. 23-26.
Organizers say the event, which served as a fundraiser for critical upgrades to the Leslieville Community Centre, was a blood-curdling success this year.
“This was a record-breaking year for us,” says Melissa Wright. “I can only image what future years will bring!”
This year featured many new attractions, including a vendor market, activities at the nearby Leslieville Elks Hall, and props from the former Fright Night At The Site event near Rocky.
Wright adds, attendees got a chuckle, as local businesses gave permission to have their names spoofed as part of the attraction.
That includes West Stitch (West Stitches), The Old Post (The Palliative Post), On Par Fitness (Double Bogey Fitness), The Western Star (The Western Scar), The Little Toy Factory (The Little Shop of Horrors), and AJ Pets (AJ Pet Cemetery).

Additionally, attendees were invited to check out a new merch table featuring limited-edition Leslieville Haunted House gear including hats, t-shirts and stickers. Proceeds from the merch went toward funding more community events throughout the community.

Fundraising totals haven’t been tallied up yet as Wright says organizers will be taking a breather after weeks of organizing.
Proceeds will support ongoing efforts to raise around $800,000 for necessary upgrades to the hall so it can continue to hold a valid occupancy permit for years to come.

The next event will be the Leslieville Community Centre’s Kids Christmas Party on Sunday Dec. 7.
As part of the fun event, Mad Science from Edmonton will be at the hall to do a show for the community. Wright says more details will be announced soon.
