Despite not coming home with the gold, it was an amazing experience for Rocky’s Bree Prediger at the 2025 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The smooth-skating, offensive defenseman logged plenty of ice time for Team Alberta in five different games, contributing offensively and defensively as well as on special teams.
“At that level, all of the games were very tight,” says Bree’s father Ty, who flew out east to watch the tournament. “I do think a few provinces practiced a little more beforehand — I think [Team Alberta] could have medaled if a few things went right.”
Ty adds, Bree was brought in for her skill, as well as her experience on the national stage as a member of the 2025 Esso Cup-winning Edmonton Jr. Oilers U18 AAA team.
For the entire squad, it was a matter of pride representing their home province, says Ty, along with playing in front of Team Canada scouts.
After three hard-fought preliminary games, Team Alberta was eliminated from the tournament in a close 4-3 loss to team Ontario Red on Nov. 6.
The team then played a consolation game to wrap up their time at the tournament Nov. 7, beating Saskatchewan 3-2 in overtime.
Team Quebec went on to win gold in a 3-1 win over Atlantic Canada.

As for what’s next, Bree will finish out the 2025-26 season with the Jr. Oilers, where she was recently named alternate captain.
Next season, Ty says Bree will be headed to Boston on a university scholarship to play hockey for Merrimack College.
