West Country residents looking to shine a light on local history can apply for financial assistance through Clearwater County’s 2026 Heritage Grant.
The county is now accepting applications for the program.
Grant funding can support a wide range of projects, says Whitney Wedman, Clearwater County’s heritage and cultural programs coordinator. Eligible initiatives include celebratory events, murals, signage or anniversary commemorations.
In recent years, recipients have included:
-
Central Alberta Antique and Model Club – replacement of railway ties for the Royal Scott train
-
JKL Trail Rides – Feathers of the Frontier wing statue in Ya Ha Tinda
-
First Christian Reformed Church – Historic Canada picnic
-
Rival Trade Brewing Co. – mural
-
Nordegg mural project

A total of $5,000 is available for 2026 projects. While there’s no set number of grants, Wedman says the committee aims to support as many applications as possible.
“It’s a great way to celebrate our history and to get people involved and excited about it,” she says.
The application deadline is Jan. 15. Forms are available on Clearwater County’s website.
