Crews have finished installing three new historic school marker signs in Clearwater County.

All three signs were put in place on Dec. 10 at sites on the county’s east end.

Oras No. 1 — The marker is located along Hwy 598, about eight kilometres east of Rocky Mountain House. The school served students from 1914 to 1950.
Students first attended classes in the Green Valley Hall until a school site was selected next to the railroad, though there was no access along the road allowance. A new school was built there in 1922. The building was later moved to Rocky, where it served as a classroom for a period.

Oras No. 2 — This sign stands on Range Road 6-2, south of Hwy 598 between Rocky and Leslieville. The school operated from 1949 to 1958.
An influx of new residents prompted the need for an additional school. The vacant Clearwater River School was brought in for the final three years, and that building later continued on to become a home in the Bingley area.

Clearwater River — The marker sits south off Hwy 22 and one mile west on Range Road 3-8, often called Old Dovercourt Road. The school served students from 1923 to 1950.
The building remained in use until students began busing into Rocky. It was moved to the Oras No. 2 site in 1955 to serve students there for three years before being relocated again to become a residence.\

The new markers cap off a busy installation season. Rocky Ag Society member Case Korver says seven or eight signs were installed in 2025.

New markers can also be found at several locations on the northeast end of Clearwater County, including Withrow and Leafland.

Korver says more signs are planned, although he could not confirm which locations will be chosen next.
