A freshly flooded ice surface is now open for the entire community to enjoy at the Rocky Mountain House Church of the Nazarene.
Located just behind the church, the rink — complete with lighting — can be enjoyed well into the winter evening for skating and games of shinny.
The rink is a labour of love, says volunteer Laura Andreas, whose husband Paul and others work diligently to not only clear snow off the surface, but also to flood the ice when the weather is cold.
“We are trying to support families doing things together,” says Andreas. “It’s a way our church can give back to the community.”
The rink is complete with boards and nets; and if volunteers don’t get to it first, snow clearing equipment is available for the community to use.
She adds, the rink on the north end of town is sometimes more convenient for some residents as it saves a trip to the town-maintained rinks near the recreation centre.
