The Rocky Rams split a pair of lopsided home games over the Jan. 10–11 weekend, posting one win and one loss.
On Friday, the Rams surrendered four unanswered goals in the first period and went on to a 10-3 loss against the Cochrane Generals. Bret Hymers, Keagan Landry and Clayton Johnson scored for Rocky.
Head coach Wendall Mason said the Rams struggled to match the pace of a red-hot opponent.
“We just came out of the gate a little slow and sluggish,” Mason said. “When you get behind the eight-ball early, it’s hard to get back out in front.”
Cochrane has gone 9-1-0 in its last 10 games.
The Rams rebounded Saturday with an 8-0 win over the High River Flyers. Mason credited strong goaltending and sustained pressure after breaking the game open early in the third period.
“Goaltending was very good on our end, and once we opened the floodgates early in the third period, the guys never let up,” he said.
Hymers scored a hat trick in front of about 175 fans at the Rocky Arena, while goaltender Lauson Kolisnek stopped 22 shots for the shutout.
With Saturday’s win, the Rams improved to 10-19-1 and sit fifth out of six teams in the HJHL’s North Division standings.
As the team enters the final stretch of the 2025-26 regular season, Mason said the focus will be on tightening play in the defensive zone — especially with two tough upcoming contests.
The Rams return to action Friday on the road in Sylvan Lake against the league-leading Wranglers.
The team then returns home on Saturday Jan. 17 for a game against second-place Red Deer Vipers. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at the Rocky Arena.
