The Rocky Rapids Basketball organization says it needs more volunteers to step forward by Jan. 23 to keep the club running.
The organization provides basketball programming for local youth aged 17 and under, but says its small group of volunteers is stretched thin and the upcoming season could be at risk without additional help.
Jason Pelley, acting president of Rocky Rapids Basketball, says the club offers families flexible and affordable ways to get kids involved in sport, with both competitive and recreational options available.
Pelley notes that while Rocky Mountain House is a hockey-loving Alberta town, the cost of that sport can be a barrier for some families, making basketball a more accessible option.
“I’d be devastated if the league had to fold after all the work that’s gone into it,” Pelley says. “It’s a valuable part of our community and gives a lot of kids something positive to do during those months.”
Encouragingly, Pelley says a number of people have reached out to offer assistance including Justin Klein, athletics director at West Central High School.
However, several important roles still need to be filled, including president, treasurer, registrar, equipment manager and gym manager.
The deadline to apply is Jan. 23, 2026. Those interested can find more information by joining the club’s Facebook page.
