The Primary Care Alberta (PCA) Screen Test program will be in Rocky Mountain House in February, offering screening mammograms to eligible individuals.
A mobile mammography trailer will be located at the Rocky Mountain House Health Centre (5016 52 Ave.) from Feb. 11 to 14 and again from Feb. 17 to 21.
The screening is available at no cost for eligible individuals aged 45 to 74, but appointments are required. Appointments can be booked by calling 1-800-667-0604.
A mammogram is an X-ray of the breast and is considered the most effective way to detect breast cancer early, when treatment is more likely to be successful.
Screening Programs transitioned from Alberta Health Services (AHS) to PCA in 2025.
The programs provide many different services to support screening in the province for breast cancer, along with cervical and colorectal screening.
According to the Screen Test program website, its goal is to reduce the number of breast, cervical and colorectal cancer-related deaths in Alberta by improving access to cancer screening for people living in communities where mammography services are not readily available.
Throughout February, the mobile clinic will also visit the communities of High Prairie, Didsbury, Grande Cache and Jasper.
More information about breast cancer screening and eligibility is available through the Screening for Life program website.
