The Rams punched their ticket to the 2026 HJHL playoffs with a gritty 6-5 overtime victory over the Airdrie Thunder on Jan. 23.
Rocky erased a 4-1 second-period deficit, tying the game on a third-period goal from Ethan Wyzykowski. In the first overtime frame, Keagan Landry scored a clutch power-play goal to secure the win.
The playoff berth comes after the Rams missed the post-season during the 2024-25 campaign.
Head coach Wendall Mason said the comeback win served as a confidence booster, particularly after a sluggish start.
Later in the weekend, the Rams dropped a 6-2 decision to the Wheatland Kings. The Strathmore-based Kings scored twice early in the third period, chasing starting goaltender Lauson Kolisnek. Backup Jaxson Schmaltz finished the game, stopping eight shots.
Playoffs begin in February
Rocky will open its playoff run against the Airdrie Thunder in the Division A qualifier.
Despite Friday’s win, the Rams have struggled against the Thunder this season, posting a 1-3 record. That includes a 9-2 blowout loss just before Christmas.
Mason expects an entertaining series, especially with one final tune-up game remaining against Airdrie to close out the regular season on Jan. 31.
Tentatively, Game 1 is scheduled for Feb. 2 in Airdrie, with Rocky hosting Game 2 of the best-of-three series Feb. 7.
Ticket prices reduced for final home games
Ticket prices will be reduced for the Rams’ final two regular-season home games, Mason said.
Students and seniors will be admitted for $5, while general admission tickets are $10.
Rocky hosts the Red Deer Vipers on Jan. 30 before closing the regular season Jan. 31 against Airdrie.
