There are plenty of activities planned for Rocky Mountain House residents over the Feb. 13-16 Family Day weekend.
Crimson Lake Winterfest, Feb. 14
Crimson Lake Winterfest returns to Crimson Lake Provincial Park on Saturday, Feb. 14, during the Family Day long weekend, bringing back a full slate of winter activities with a Valentine’s Day twist.
The free, family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pioneer Ranch and will feature pony and sleigh rides, ice fishing, skating and hockey, snowshoeing, carnival games and axe throwing. Couples can also enter to win a Valentine’s prize package, including a private sleigh ride.
A highlight of the day is the annual Freezin’ For A Reason Polar Bear Dip at 1 p.m. Participants must raise at least $100 for a charity of their choice, with couples entered into additional prize draws for every $200 raised. Over the past eight years, the fundraiser has brought in more than $82,000 for charities including Rocky Search and Rescue, the Rocky Library, ROAR, STARS Air Ambulance and local youth initiatives.
Organizers hope to surpass $100,000 in total fundraising this year.

Family Day Activites in Rocky Mountain House, Feb. 16
Rocky Mountain House’s Community Events Committee is hosting a free Family Day celebration packed with outdoor fun at the Curtis Field oval, weather permitting.
Planned activities include a skating disco, Winter Olympics-themed mini-games, a chili cookoff and other family-friendly events such as tug-of-war and giant Jenga. Organizers are also planning snow-based challenges like a snowman build, snowman throw and obstacle course, depending on conditions. Families can warm up by the fire with hot chocolate and cookies.
If temperatures are too cold, events will move indoors to the Rocky Mountain House Recreation Centre.
The committee is also working to boost participation in this year’s chili cookoff by offering up to eight participants $100 in Chamber Bucks to help cover ingredient costs. The registration deadline is Feb. 13, and the winning recipe will receive a prize.
Organizers encourage residents to also attend Crimson Lake Winterfest earlier in the weekend, noting the local Family Day event provides a convenient option for those unable to travel.
