The Rocky Mountain Flying Club will hold its semi-annual Introduction to Aviation event April 25.
The free event takes place at the Rocky Mountain House Airport, with activities beginning at 9 a.m. An alternate date of May 2 has been set in case of poor weather.
Due to strong interest again this year, club president Al Aker says all spots for the spring 2026 program are filled. However, he says those interested can join a wait-list for a fall session.
This year, three fixed-wing aircraft and one helicopter will give about 35 participants a chance to view the West Country from the air.
Before flying, participants will take part in a mini ground school and, if available, hear from a current commercial pilot student about careers in aviation. Aker says the program is aimed at youth aged 12 and older, but adults are also welcome.
The club has offered the program for 18 years, cancelling only during the pandemic.
“A lot of people in the local area and central Alberta have experienced this with us,” Aker said. “We’re glad to see there’s still strong interest.”
Those interested in registering can call Aker at 403-845-0978 or email 44flyeraa@gmail.com.
