A man from Rocky Mountain House is over $294,000 richer after winning the Western Canadian Lottery Corporation’s Lightning Lotto.

James L. won $294,769.80 while checking tickets at the Petro Canada located at 4419 45 Street in Rocky Mountain House. He knew he was a winner when he heard the winning Lightning Lotto sound go off.

“I happened to look up when the bell rang, and it caught my eye,” he said in a media release. “It stopped me in my tracks.”

The man said it took him a moment to realize what was really happening.

“I just thought, ‘Is this a dream?’” he laughed.

As a result, he plans to pay off his home and enjoy the summer.

“I’m paying my mortgage and my bills, and then we’ll see what happens,” he added.

He won his prize in a flash by matching all five numbers in the selection for the March 8 Lightning Lotto draw: 1, 6, 10, 24, and 35.
