All the rip roaring action of the Caroline Bighorn Stampede returns this May long weekend (15-17) for a 92nd year.
Top rodeo events are scheduled such as bareback and saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, junior bull and horse riding, barrel racing and to finish the evenings off — the popular pack horse races.
Of course, some events for little cowboys and cowgirls such as mutton bustin’ and balloon scramble.
New this year, around 20 riders will compete in the women’s ranch bronc riding competition.
“It’s going to be pretty exciting,” says Terry Pengelly, president of the Ricinus Wooler Community Association, who adds it’s an official, sanctioned qualifying event for the upcoming finals in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Rodeo slack begins at 3:30 p.m. Friday with the bronc riding competition starting at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday and Sunday, rodeo events begin at 12:30 p.m. both days.
Both Friday and Saturday nights feature entertainment at the grounds. Shandy will hit the stage Friday, while Mike and the Boys return Saturday.
Offsite events
The entire Caroline area is set to get swept up in Bighorn action.
The annual pancake breakfast will be served up on Main St. ahead of the parade starting at 10:30 a.m.
A cowboy church will be held Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

For those who want to make a weekend of it, Pengelley says there will be free camping available with admission.
Admission is $15 at the door for adults, while children 6-12 are $5.
Pengelley thanked the dozens of sponsors who stepped up to support this year’s event. “That’s what makes these events work.”
The rodeo grounds are located five miles west of Caroline, then half a mile north on Highway 22.
