The Rocky Barracuda Swim Club is inviting the community to a special 45th anniversary celebration June 16.
To mark the occasion, alumni — including coaches and swimmers from decades past — have been invited to take part at the Rocky Co-operative Aquatic Centre.
“We’re looking forward to an exciting evening in sharing those experiences together,” says club president Crystal Stang, who adds she’s already heard from throwback alumni who are excited to attend.
There’s much to celebrate and be proud of, says Stang, who says it’s difficult to summarize just how much the club has benefitted the community over the last 45 years.
Apart from building excellent swimming skills, Stang says the club has helped countless alumni become qualified to work as lifeguards.
Involvement with the Barracudas has also laid the foundation for swimmers and coaches to move into other vocations, she adds, with many choosing to stay in Rocky.
Through the club, other swimmers have simply discovered their love of swimming and found strength inside themselves they didn’t previously know they had.
“It’s really far reaching, and we’re really thankful for the people who have made it such a great club since the beginning,” says Stang, who adds 46 swimmers are part of the highly successful 2025-2026 season.

Following the celebrations, the club will be gearing up for some special events later in 2026. That includes possibly bringing in specialists to host swimming clinics, or sending swimmers away to camps to master specific strokes.
With the ever-increasing cost of living, Stang adds, the club is looking at new ways of being equitable for all families in the region. Possible measures include fully sponsoring up to two participants, although that’s still in the discussion phase.
“Maybe this is a life changing situation for someone,” she says.
The 45th anniversary celebration will include cake and refreshments with doors opening a little after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 at the aquatic centre. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place around 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
