Rocky Mountain House town council has decided against reducing its summer meeting schedule, opting to continue meeting twice a month.
Administration brought forward the idea after discussions about whether council should adopt a lighter summer schedule, noting many Alberta municipalities reduce meetings or take a break during the summer months, particularly in August.
Historically, Rocky Mountain House council has maintained its regular schedule of two meetings per month throughout the summer.
“I would like to see us continue the way we are,” Coun. Denise Boniface said. “I don’t want to see us lose the momentum of what’s been happening.”
Chief administrative officer Dean Krause said that if council switched to one meeting a month, the mayor might need to call a special meeting if urgent matters arose.
Couns. Ken Moesker and Dale Shippelt said they were initially open to reducing the number of summer meetings but changed their minds before the matter came to a vote.
Council received the report for information, leaving the current meeting schedule unchanged.
Summer meetings will continue on the first and third Tuesdays of each month: July 7, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18.
For comparison, Clearwater County has no regular council meeting scheduled for Aug. 11 as part of its summer schedule.
