Major renovations at the Leslieville Community Hall are largely complete, capping off a project that cost nearly $1 million.
The upgrades were first identified in 2024 after the hall was required to undertake significant improvements to meet fire code and occupancy requirements. At the time, officials warned the facility could lose its ability to host events if the work was not completed.
The project included upgrades to the floors, walls, ceiling and kitchen, along with the addition of two accessible washrooms.
“We’ve passed all of our inspections, and we have all of our permits in place,” said Leslieville Community Hall board president Brenna Knopp. She added that safety, fire code and Alberta Health Services inspectors have all approved the work.
Only minor exterior work remains, none of which is required for occupancy. The board has also ordered new stage curtains and a sound system, which have yet to be installed.
Knopp said the project came in at about $950,000, slightly below the original $1-million estimate.
“We want to give a big thank you to our donors,” she said. “Without their generosity, this project wouldn’t have been possible.”
Work began in early March, with crews gutting the kitchen and installing the new lighting and drywall.
