The Compassionate Care Hospice Society has announced more than $11,700 was raised during its June 13 Walk for Hospice event, surpassing its goal of $10,000.
The event drew 40 walkers who took part in three, five, and 10-kilometre routes on what turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day in Rocky Mountain House.
Volunteers included members of Rocky Search and Rescue, who served as crossing guards, and employees from TC Energy, who brought their grill to provide lunch for hungry participants.
“A lot of our walkers collected pledges in memory of loved ones. They really knocked it out of the park this year,” said Melissa Drake, marketing co-ordinator with the Compassionate Care Hospice Society, noting the fundraising goal was exceeded.
A silent auction also helped raise money for local hospice and bereavement care.
Prizes were handed out to the top fundraisers, with Amanda Fischer taking first place and Deb Imeson finishing runner-up.

The 2025 event, which organizers also deemed a success, raised just under $11,000.
“It’s just great to see our community come together and walk in support of hospice and bereavement care, and we’re looking forward to next year,” Drake said.
