Clearwater County has received funding through Alberta’s Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) to support the replacement of a bridge culvert located on Township Road 42-5A,
approximately 6.4 kilometres west of Buster Creek Road.

County officials say the project has been awarded a maximum provincial grant of $2,062,500, representing 75 per cent of the estimated replacement cost of approximately $2.75 million. Funding was announced by the Honourable Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors, through the Province’s STIP Local Road Bridge program.

The county notes the bridge culvert has received advisories indicating a low rating in both 2025 and 2026 due to deterioration of the culvert barrel. Officials say replacement of the structure is required to maintain safe and reliable transportation infrastructure for residents, businesses, and the agricultural industry. They further point out the project is directly linked with planned upgrades to Township Road 42-5A and serves as another example of Clearwater County’s ongoing advocacy and partnership efforts to improve what is described as an important transportation corridor for the region.

“The County appreciates the Province’s continued investment in rural transportation infrastructure,” said Jordon Northcott, Reeve of Clearwater County, in a press release. “This funding will help ensure an important transportation link can be replaced and continue serving our communities for years to come.”

Officials say replacement of the bridge culvert is currently anticipated for 2027, pending detailed design, approvals, and construction scheduling.
