Rocky’s 2026 Terry Fox Run will take place Sunday, Sept. 20, with participants invited to walk, run or bike while raising money for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Registration on run day begins at 12:30 p.m. at Helen Hunley Park with the run beginning at 1 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to register online in advance, although same-day registration will also be available.
Again this year, the main route runs along town walking trails and is just over five kilometres long. A shorter route will also be available. Signs will be posted along the course to help direct participants.
Following the run, light refreshments and door prizes will be available for participants.
This year’s Terry Fox Run follows a highly successful event last year, says organizer Cheryl Terpsma, who notes the 2025 run drew dozens of participants.
“We’ve all been touched by cancer — we all know somebody’s who’s had it, or maybe we’ve had it ourselves,” she says. “I hope that a lot of people can come out and continue Terry’s dream.”
Terpsma says she personally knows someone who had the same type of cancer as Terry. However, because of advancements in treatments, she is still with us today.
Even if people don’t want to run, or can’t make it that day, Terpsma says you can still sponsor a team by going to terryfox.org and looking up the Rocky Mountain House team.
The Terry Fox Foundation raises funds for cancer research in support of Terry Fox’s vision of a world without cancer. Fox began his Marathon of Hope in 1980, running across Canada to raise money for cancer research after losing his right leg to cancer.
Fox was 18 when he began the cross-country run. Although he was unable to complete the journey after his cancer returned, his effort continues to inspire fundraising and cancer research across Canada and around the world.
Participants can take part in honour or memory of someone affected by cancer, or simply to support cancer research.
People who have received a cancer diagnosis can register online as a Terry’s Team member and receive a red T-shirt at no charge. Additional Terry Fox clothing is available for purchase online.
Those unable to attend the run can support the foundation through an online donation or by purchasing clothing.
Those interested in participating or volunteering for the event can call 403-846-6929.
