Pidherney’s inaugural Fill the Bucket campaign is being touted as a great success.
A Pidherney-sized truckload filled to the brim with backpacks, pencil cases, crayons, hygiene products and more has been delivered to local schools.
Along with school supplies, the campaign also raised $2,130 in cash, which is being donated to schools in both Wild Rose School Division and Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools.
The donations will go a long way in helping families who need a little extra assistance with the high cost of back to school season, said organizer and Pidherney’s oilfield manager Wendall Mason.
He adds there was an optimistic feeling ahead of the campaign that the community would show up in a big way — and they didn’t disappoint.
The idea was the brainchild of Pidherney’s marketing and social media guru Keelie Rollier, who wanted to do something significant to give back to the community.
Donation bins were set up at Dollargate and Alpine Drug Store, as well as at the Pidherney’s head office.
With the success of year one, Mason says conversations are underway to not only make it an annual event, but to expand it to schools outside Rocky Mountain House in future years.
Organizers are extending their gratitude to every person and business who donated, shared the campaign, hosted a drop-off spot or helped out along the way.
