The Rocky Mountain House Cross Country Ski Club is preparing for another winter season, but organizers say they need more volunteers to keep the club running.
The club will hold its annual general meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m. in the program room at the Rocky Arena.
Club president Chelsea Straub says several board positions need to be filled, including secretary, communications director and kids’ ski lesson coordinator.
The AGM will also provide an opportunity for the public to hear more about the club and get geared up for the upcoming season. The public will also have a chance to voice their opinion on what they would like to see the ski club look like in the future.
The volunteer-run club maintains about six kilometres of skier-only trails at the Pine Hills Golf Club, offering both classic and skate skiing.
The ski season typically runs from December to March, depending on snowfall.
The club also offers adult ski lessons and children’s programming through the Jackrabbit National Ski Program. Kids’ lessons typically begin in January and run once a week for 10 weeks.

Straub says cross-country skiing provides an affordable way for families to stay active during the winter.
“Once you get the equipment, you can ski almost anywhere that there is snow,” she says.
She adds that the sport can be enjoyed at a variety of ages and activity levels.
There have been ski trails at Pine Hills for more than 40 years, and Straub says the club is grateful for the golf course’s continued support.
Family memberships cost $30, while adult memberships are $13 and youth memberships are $5. There is also a $24 insurance fee per person.
Children’s lessons cost about $100 per child.
Ski equipment rentals are also offered to member and children registered for lessons.
Registration information is available through Zone4.ca and the club’s Facebook group. Questions can also be directed to president.rmhski@gmail.com.
